Surfside is the perfect summer restaurant that really belongs on a beach overlooking the ocean rather than Wisconsin Avenue.
However; when you look at and go inside this restaurant, it really does feel like you are in Miami.
Surfside has two parts; a taco stand (that is open late) and traditional restaurant.
Unfortunately, I did not visit Surfside over the summer. I went on the coldest day in January so I did not enjoy the wonderful outdoor seating. I can only imagine how amazing the vibes will be over the summer. They even have those fancy restaurant garage doors!
This is a very casual and fun place to go for dinner. Its super convenient and you probably wouldn’t ever need a reservation. The food is decent. Really nothing special there. The food feels very basic. You will order a dish and it will just feel like they piled ingredients on-top of each other without the special craft or care you would expect from a restaurant. The taste isn’t bland but there is no pizzaz either. You are really there for the conversation, vibe and the drinks.
I think you are better off sharing a couple of items and ordering a lot of drinks (you’ll save a couple of dollars this way).
The service was great and very attentive to our needs.
Surfside is in Tenleytown near the metro stop. Nice area but beware of American University students.
