I was immediately drawn in after viewing their website and menu. Upon entering the restaurant  and sitting down for brunch with a couple of extremely hung-over friends, I felt the theme of the website play out in the experience. The interior of the restaurant is wonderful. It is a fancy, modern and cozy restaurant with lovely dishes and little cups for water.

I was especially excited to go here because I have never gone to an Afghan restaurant before. They do have bottomless brunch, but by 2 p.m (when we arrived) our server told us that there was probably not enough champagne left for us to do bottomless. That was a tad disappointing, but I was actually happy because I wanted to focus on the food. The food is fantastic. I enjoyed most of what I ate. (I ordered something with Leeks and I did not like it, not the restaurant’s fault though, leeks just suck).

I had a life changing moment when I had their Lapis Pancakes. You must order this item. They were the best pancakes I’ve had in my life. These pancakes were made with sweet rose water and cardamon. This combination of flavors on a fluffy pancake is an experience I wouldn’t want my worst enemy to miss. If you go to Lapis for brunch and do not order their pancakes, you are actually wasting your time.

The food, drink, design, and hospitality worked so well with each other and it felt more like a special dining experience than getting brunch.

Lapis is located in the heart of Adam’s Morgan, only 1 block away from the famed 18th street. The service was great as well. They add a 20% service fee automatically, but don’t worry, our server deserved 20%.
